Fall Fair Escapades and Some New Faces

Carp Fair Fun!
Fall Fun at the Carp Fair!

 Autumn is Here!

Time has gotten away from us! Fall has begun and we’re  in full swing again! The crisp evenings and the turning  leaves are creating a lovely autumn atmosphere.

 Trip to Carp Fair

On Friday, our Luncheon group travelled to the Carp  Fair. Can you believe that the Carp Fair has been  around for 152 years? That’s longer than most of us  have been alive!

We’re Hiring Homemakers

Recently, our In-Home Services department has undergone many changes and new boundaries have been defined. This means that we are looking for more staff. Please see our job posting for Homemakers at the link below. We are specifically looking for Homemakers in Carleton Place and Lanark.

September Update: Tastes of Wellington, Recipe Request and More!

September 9, 2015

Tastes of Wellington

Tastes of Wellington Saturday September 19th is the annual Tastes of Wellington West Event. This is a wonderful event, where  all of the area businesses come out to showcase their services and products. It has a wonderful community  element, and feels like a street fair. OWCS will be hosting a free café that day. We will be setting up an area  for passersby to relax in, full of lovely bistro tables on lend from area businesses. Free coffee will be  provided by Bridgehead and fee tea will be provided by Nectar fine teas. Pray for a sunny day since we’ll be  set up outside!

Comfort Food Recipes Needed

We are currently putting together an OWCS Comfort Food themed cookbook! This cookbook will start being sold as a fundraiser in October. We are hoping to collect a wide variety of recipes from OWCS clients, volunteers and staff members. The definition of comfort food is anything that brings you happiness or invokes warm feelings! It can be a main course, an appetizer, or a dessert! The deadline for recipe submission is September 30th. Submissions can be made to Sarah in person, by phone, or by email. sarah@owcs.ca

Friday Luncheon Back in Session

Friday September 4 was our first Friday Luncheon of the 2015/2016 season. More than 40 people were in attendance for a wonderful post-summer reunion! Clients caught up, ate a delicious lunch and of course, they danced!

Performance by 8th Generation

8th Generation DancerJacqui Du Toit and Jack Pyl of 8th Generation performed some African stories, dances and songs for our Day Program clients. It was a wonderfully unique and interactive experience for our clients and we can’t wait to have them back! More information can be found at http://www.8thgeneration.co.

Stay tuned for more updates from OWCS and let us know if there’s anything you want to hear about!

September Means a New Start!

Hello September

September 1, 2015

Hello to the clients, families, staff and neighbours of Ottawa West Community Support.

September brings on the new school year, and with it many new beginnings, whether we are students or not. We thought this would be the perfect time to launch a new communication initiative: our very own blog!

What is a blog? Well, it’s the abbreviated way of saying Web Log. Merely, a regularly updated website. Isn’t the internet fun?

Currently we have a wonderful, informative newsletter that goes out four times a year. We are hoping that the blog will be a supplement to the newsletter; giving you reminders of dates and changes; updating you on each of our programs; and letting you know of other events that are happening in our community.

At the moment, there is no set schedule for updating the blog, but we are optimistically aiming for 3 or 4 updates per month.  We’ll be posting links to the updates via our Facebook and Twitter accounts.

In the meantime, please let us know if there’s anything you want to see updates on, and we’ll do our best to make it happen! Until next time!
